To Lose Fat - Understand Water - Life's Magical Elixir

To Lose Fat - Understand Water - Life

Next to air, water is the most important element to life on our planet. There are four pillars to losing excess body fat. They are; 1.Reduce Calories.2.Increase Activity (Exercise).3.Increase Metabolism.4.Learn how to Drink Water (Stay Hydrated).Very few people think of water as a key element in losing unwanted body fat.If you can understand the proper use of water, or proper hydration, you will have discovered a key to a lifetime of perfect weight and optimum health. If you just read this information it may give you some new knowledge and insight, but if you can put it into practice it will quickly change your health and your life. The Power of Water as a Fat-Loss Technique. There is indisputable scientific proof that drinking ordinary water IS, bar none, the easiest way to fight fat and lose weight. In fact, the latest reports show that water is nothing short of a metabolism-boosting, appetite-suppressing, miracle. Some people may have a difficult time buying into this statement for one simple reason. you know lots of people who have the ever-present bottle of water but are still considerably overweight. So What's Happening? Why the "Seeming" Contradiction? You Must Drink It Right! For everyone, except a few folks with rare health conditions, there are zero disadvantages to drinking water. There are only benefits, and lots of them.So again, how is it that some people drink water all day long and are still overweight? Two reasons; The first is that they're drinking tiny amounts throughout the day.To reap the biggest anti-fat benefits, which includes a thirty percent boost in metabolism and a fifteen percent reduction in appetite, you need to put into practice the following rules;.• Water helps break down more carbs. When we drink water, our bodies use carbohydrate stores to fuel the increased calorie burn.So if pasta, bread or sugar are your downfall, drinking water will ensure that less of the pasta, bread and sugar you eat ends up being stored as fat!• Have at least ten to fifteen ounces before each meal and snack. When you drink this ten to fifteen ounces, don't sip it, drink it down.By consuming this much water you are certain that you'll have enough in your system at the time it is most beneficial.• DO NOT get thirsty. In addition to guzzling those ten or so ounces before eating, make sure you're drinking water throughout the day.If you are ever just the slightest bit parched, you have already dehydrated yourself. When we're dehydrated our body's systems, and their functioning efficiency, including metabolism, drop significantly.• Stave off hunger with water and save 100 calories per meal.Research has shown that when we drink water with a meal, we automatically want fifteen percent fewer calories. That's about 100 calories less for each meal than when we drink soda, juice or milk. And water drinkers feel more full than people who skip water.• For many years we've been told NOT to drink water with our meals because the water dilutes the gastric juices and hinders digestion. There is no clear evidence that supports this. If, however, you find that drinking water with your meals hinders your digestion, just be certain to drink adequate amounts well before mealtime. The stomach needs water to digest foods.• Water filters excess calories.Drinking plenty of water allows food to flow through the intestinal tract quickly enough to reduce the number of calories that can be absorbed.• Water gives you a thirty percent metabolism boost. It's been discovered that drinking ten to sixteen ounces of water increases calorie burn up to thirty percent for a full half-hour.You will also burn up to thirty percent more calories for all your waking hours.• Water helps break down more fat.Fat cells are made of liquids and need proper levels of fluid to function. You simply cannot break down fat without plenty of water.• When you're well hydrated, you make all your body's systems - including metabolism - far more efficient. Some studies say as much as fifty times more efficient. For today try to note just how much water you tend to drink and when you normally drink it.If you don't like the taste of plain water add lemon, lime or a water-flavoring packet.Several years ago, before I developed the habit of drinking the proper amount of water, I had a difficult time remembering my "commitment" to consume the necessary amount. To help me develop the habit I made sure that I always had a few bottles of water in my car, near my computer and beside the coffee pot.First thing in the morning, while the water was gearing up for a boil, I made sure I already had the day's first bottle consumed before my first cup of coffee.Water has been recommended by a large faction of the medical community as a preventative and cure for almost every ailment and malady imaginable. Its benefits for weight loss are indisputable and overwhelming!Surprisingly enough, there is a very strong correlation between overeating and dehydration of the body.In general there are two sensations related to eating; there is "hunger pain" and there is "thirst." Both sensations are felt in the same area and both are brought on by histamines.Ironically we will often confuse the two signals and think we are hungry when in fact we are really thirsty. We frequently think a dry mouth is a sign that we are thirsty and we use that as our cue to drink fluids. In reality, by the time our mouths go dry we've reached an unhealthy state of dehydration, we've actually reached the last stage of thirst.Have you ever noticed, after a heavy meal you are constantly thirsty? That's because the intake of solid foods help to dehydrate the body. The best way to separate the sensation of thirst from the sensation of hunger is to drink plenty of water all day long and be sure to drink water before eating. Our typical habit is to take food and then water.During the process of digestion the body uses up all the available free water. This can be a major cause of obesity. Here's why.Obese people will often eat food to mistakenly satisfy their body's call for water.Food, like water, is converted to ATP.[At the risk of having you shudder at the thought of a high school biology lesson, general writing etiquette requires that I give a brief definition of ATP.].Living things store energy mainly in the form of chemical bonds.Within your cells, energy is constantly moved around from one large molecule to another. To convert a food molecule to a muscle molecule requires adenosine triphosphate (ATP).ATP works like a rechargeable battery. When you eat, many complex chemical reactions occur, but in essence all you are doing is recharging your ATP, because everything you do, from walking to thinking, requires the immediate energy of ATP.Because this is absolutely crucial to weight loss, let me say it again.Obese people will often eat food to mistakenly satisfy their body's call for water.Food, like water, is converted to ATP.To the taste buds, food is much more satisfying than water. To satisfy the brain's need for ATP however, water is drastically more effective, more efficient, and more "desirable" than food. With food we can generate energy for brain function only from sugar. However, we will consume five times more food than the brain actually needs. Why? Only twenty percent of the blood's circulation goes to the brain. The other eighty percent, now laden with sugar, goes to the other organs - including fat cells that store the sugar in the form of fat.The more food we eat, the more sugar is converted to fat.Meanwhile back at the "brain ranch," all it wanted was a little water to generate hydroelectricity, a wonderfully clean, pure source of energy. You may want to read the above explanation one more time!Since many of us have erroneously programmed ourselves to confuse basic thirst for hunger, we have simply developed an undesirable habit (eating) to our body's cry for energy (read water).Dehydration is very often the root cause of obesity. How is Water the Solution to Losing Excess Fat?About thirty minutes before each meal, and two and a half hours after each meal, drink about fifteen ounces of water.Drinking this amount of water thirty minutes before eating, will help you to feel full which means you'll eat considerably less food at mealtime.Adopting the Daily Habit of Proper Hydration.Try to note your daily water habits. If you're presently not in the habit of drinking the requisite amount of water each day, do your best to get into the habit.Within ten days of forming the habit, you will notice a dramatic increase in your energy levels, as well as a dramatic decrease in appetite.Try it and you'll quickly become a believer!Earlier I said that I had to develop the habit of drinking water. To help myself along, I made sure that water was always convenient and always close at hand.Another technique I used to train myself to drink water was this; IEUR^started the day with eight dimes in my left pocket. With each glass of water I drank I switched a dime from my left to my right pocket. At the end of the day the goal was to have all eight dimes in my right pocket. It worked. You'll be amazed how often you feel the dimes or you subconsciously put your hand in your pocket and say; "Oh yeah, I forgot all about drinking my water".And you'll fill up your water container and transfer another dime.If you find yourself forgetting, try the dime technique.Did You Know? The best way to figure out how much fluid you should ingest daily, is to divide your body weight (in pounds) by two. That's the number of ounces of water you need daily.A normal glass is approximately eight ounces.I.E.If you weigh 150 pounds you need seventy-five ounces each day.Can you think of how you might start to incorporate water into your daily regime so that it would become a healthy and pleasurable routine?Remember, when the body cries for water the pangs of thirst are often mistaken for hunger pangs. This "false read" causes us to eat instead of properly hydrating the body.Food is an inefficient way to supply the brain with energy, it uses only twenty percent, and the rest is stored as fat unless it's burned up through exercise or other energy consuming activities. We noted that drinking water, thirty minutes before mealtimes and two and a half hours after mealtime, will have a dramatic effect on our eating habits, patterns and quantities.Water is truly the elixir of life, and the little understood secret to losing unwanted fat.To Get My Fluids, Do I Have to Drink Water? If your goal is to lose excess fat and optimize your health the short answer is "Yes!".You can drink soft drinks, diet soft drinks, milk, fruit juice, coffee, tea, soy beverages, vitamin-enriched waters, since all will contribute to your daily fluid requirements.Although all fluids contribute to your daily hydration, when it comes to losing weight, and keeping healthy, everything outside of pure water comes with a cost. This can be in the form of calories, sodium, refined sugars, artificial sweeteners, chemical additives and caffeine.Soft Drinks - A twelve ounce serving of pop can come with up to eight teaspoons of sugar.Cola drinks are made with phosphoric acid than can deplete calcium from your bones.Energy drinks come with lots of caffeine and as much sugar as a regular soft drink.Fruit Juice - A good source of vitamins but a twelve ounce serving of OJ can have more than 160 calories.Milk and Soy are high in calories as well.Vitamin-Enriched Water - Most are "carbon copies" of soft drinks. They're loaded with calories and sugar. If you want to lose weight and maintain optimum health, learn to drink water.Pure water.Just increasing your daily water intake will reduce some of your stored fat.In fact, you can lose as much as ten pounds in three weeks by boosting your water intake.Stored fat can only be broken down by specific chemical compounds.Certain enzymes breakdown lumps of fat into smaller fatty acid particles that can be burned by muscles and the liver.Water is also the magical fluid that stimulates the nervous system and the adrenal secretion that leads to a gradual loss of stored fat and a dramatic reduction of excess weight.Weight loss through proper hydration is more stable, permanent, and reliable than any form of dieting and caloric intake. The most exciting part is that it is such a healthy and simple lifestyle incorporation that will have immediate and dramatic effects on your energy levels. How does salt effect weight loss? When the body becomes dehydrated and needs to increase its water reserves, it can only do so if salt is available to expand the extra-cellular water content of the body.A dehydrated body seeks salt through food. This search for salt is another bodily call that we often confuse for hunger, which results in overeating. When the body is dehydrated, it automatically goes into emergency rationing. It is forced to allocate when and where water is delivered.Areas that are dry simply cannot function at their optimum levels. If certain vital organs and parts of the body are continually deprived of water they become susceptible to breakdown resulting in pain and eventually degenerative disease conditions.Well, there you have it.As you can see there's a lot of magic in water. If you don't like drinking very much right now, just try it for two weeks.Always keep water within easy reach and use the dimes in your pocket as a reminder. The dramatic results will soon become addictive! To reap the biggest anti-fat benefits of water - including a thirty percent metabolism boost and a fifteen percent appetite reduction, you need to..• Have ten to fifteen ounces of water before each meal or snack.Don't sip it.Drink it down! • Never allow yourself to get thirsty. You don't need to worry about consuming a precise number of total ounces or cups each day but, in addition to those ten to fifteen ounces, make sure you're drinking enough additional water so that you never feel the least bit parched.• When dehydrated, our body's systems - including metabolism - can become up to fifty times less efficient.• Water's the anti-hunger way to save up to 100 calories per meal. When we drink water with a meal, we automatically want fifteen percent fewer calories - about 100 calories per meal - than when we drink soda, juice or milk. And water drinkers feel more full than folks who skip water.• Water filters excess calories.Drink enough water and food flows through the intestinal tract rapidly enough to reduce the number of calories that can be absorbed.• Water gives you a thirty percent metabolism boost.Drinking two cups of water increases calorie burn by thirty percent for thirty minutes, and you'll burn thirty percent more calories for all your waking hours! • Water helps break down more carbs.Drinking water helps our bodies use carbohydrate stores to fuel the increased calorie burn.So if pasta, bread or sugar are your downfall, drinking water will ensure that less of the pasta, bread and sugar you eat ends up stored as fat! • Water helps everyone break down more fat.Fat cells are made of liquids and need proper levels of fluid to function. You can't break down fat without plenty of water.• When you're well hydrated, you make all your body's systems - including metabolism - drastically more efficient. If you don't like pure water, there are many flavor additives available, or you may just enjoy a squeeze of lemon or lime.Think of ways that you might incorporate your daily water requirements into your life.Your goal should be to make proper hydration become a permanent part of your lifestyle! If you do, you'll magically begin to shed that unwanted fat and your energy levels will soar!

College And University STEM Programs Work With The Youth

Students in undergraduate studies at a Georgia university have for 10 years participated in an apprenticeship program that allows them to work with faculty members in carrying out research related to their areas of study. The opportunities provide students as many as 12 hours a week in active research in STEM degree (science, technology, engineering and math) studies such as biology and cellular biology and genetics. The student apprenticeships in Georgia are offered as part of a Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities Apprentice program. In addition to gaining a better understanding of what their professors do outside of the classroom, students are able to expand knowledge in their area of study to a point where they decide to pursue research in the field and where they might make innovative discoveries.STEM apprenticeships aren't only available at the college or university level for students who are directly pursuing STEM degrees.STEM careers are some of those that are expected to experience positive employment growth, and there's been a focus on filling a "pipeline" of future STEM degree students and STEM professionals.Because these apprenticeships might be seen as a way of generating interest in STEM studies, some concentrate on offering them in elementary and secondary schools. In some instances, colleges and universities are partnering with K-12 schools to increase interest in STEM studies.A high school in Ohio, for example, was profiled in a January 2010 article in Converge magazine in partnership. This school has partnered with a local university to teach students STEM subjects via hands on activities and apprenticeships as part of an effort to make STEM careers more appealing to students, the Converge magazine article noted. In Southwest Washington State, where two community colleges and a university offer STEM certificates as well as STEM degrees at the associate's through graduate levels, students in grades 2-12 receive preparation for future STEM careers as part of a Saturday Academy.Hands-on activities are a part of the academy's science and engineering apprenticeships.Companies such as Lockheed Martin also offer STEM apprenticeship programs for students early on.With Lockheed Martin, the apprenticeship program is an internet technology workforce training program for high school students. The students, selected by their schools, spend time at the Lockheed Martin Pennsylvania campus during their junior and senior years as well as the summer in between, learning about software systems, engineering, communications, internet technology and more. After the students graduate from high school, they can work full-time for Lockheed Martin.Lockheed Martin created its STEM apprenticeship program in response to an anticipated shortage of engineering and information technology professionals. In setting out to train local students, the company focuses on those who tend to be underrepresented in STEM degrees and STEM fields.Among those who tend to be underrepresented in STEM. women and minorities.

Ocean Technology Sheds New Light on Aquatic Life

Ocean Technology Sheds New Light on Aquatic Life

The oceans are lovely places for us to see the water, but there are so many forms of aquatic life in them that we often don't think about. Some of them are very small and others are extremely large. Thanks to various forms of ocean technology though we are able to see them and to understand more about them. The many ecosystems in the oceans each play their role for the overall survival of others.Being able to observe them and to capture them on film is important. It allows researchers to identify locations of certain species. It also helps them to evaluate dangers to their ecosystems. The term subsea is what is used to refer to the various forms of equipment that allow for people to go exploring in the ocean. There is so much activity all the time below the surface.Individuals that pursue a degree in marine biology learn how to use an array of items. This allows them to have easy access to the things they need for exploring. The creation of subsea items ensures that we can learn so much more about aquatic life. These items are carefully designed for the safety of those using them, the surroundings of water, and to help ensure that they aren't going to cause any harm to the ocean when they have been used. The use of an underwater camera allows for still shots to be taken of these various forms of aquatic life.Such a camera is very versatile and it won't be damaged due to the water. If you go snorkeling that is something you should get.You can buy a low cost underwater camera for a reasonable price. It can allow you to enhance the memories you take home from that vacation. The use of underwater video has also allowed for full length documentaries to be filmed. This type of ocean technology is very important as it allows for taping to be done even in the dark areas deep within the ocean. It has also allowed for the taped of ship remains to be explored on film.Subsea imaging allows for imagines and for films to be taken under the surface of the ocean. However, this type of technology also allows for sonar to be used to locate certain living elements in the water. This helps the researchers to plan expeditions and to gain the most information from them. The technology offered for the ocean continues to improve all the time. The use of subsea imaging has opened up many great opportunities for explorers and scientists. It is believed there are still many living things in the ocean that we haven't even discovered yet.The use of such technology is one day going to allow to do to so.The biggest concern with ocean technology is that it can be very expensive.Funding expeditions is difficult at times due to that overhead investment.Still, there are entities out there willing to offer as much money as they can for ocean exploration to take place.

Bioengineering Careers: How Biomedical Engineering Directly Impacts Mankind

Bioengineering Careers: How Biomedical Engineering Directly Impacts Mankind

The world of biomedical engineering is a cutting-edge career path that applies engineering principles to medicine, the human body, and the way that biology works to create life.In our discussion with Amy Patel, a young bioengineer in the pharmaceutical industry, we learn what led to her interest in becoming a biomedical engineer. She also answers our question of "what do biomedical engineers do?".Becoming a Biomedical Engineer to Better Society. When deciding on bioengineering as a profession, Amy says most people are aiming to help the betterment of mankind through their work. She tells us she chose this profession because "you can really feel like you are making a difference in the world." Whether it be through helping veterans by providing artificial limbs, or generating organs for those in need of a transplant, careers in biomedical engineering have incredible direct-to-consumer impact.Furthermore, Amy defines bioengineering as a limitless industry."We're just scratching the surface of it.And being a part of it you could really help people later on in your life as technologies.".Know Your Strengths .Bioengineering careers provide diverse subfields in which one can choose to focus.Biomedical engineering deals with things like the creation of synthetic drugs, stem cell research, tissue engineering, and finding cures to diseases like Alzheimer's.You can also explore specializations like nanotechnology (Amy calls this the study of "really, really tiny particles of fluid motions") or more traditional areas of engineering that pertain to quality, reliability, and safety.Amy, who works as a reliability engineer at a company that makes drugs for people with chronic illness and life-long diseases, says she helps to "make sure all the machines creating those drugs are working properly." Her day can include everything from data analysis to participating in meetings and creating reports or recommendations. But, another person becoming a biomedical engineer might choose a focus on sales, research, or grant writing; so knowing where your strengths lie is the first step in exploring bioengineering careers.Explore Your Options. If a research or lab work career does not excite you, Amy suggests looking into other areas of the bioengineering industry. She discusses how biomedical engineers are well suited for sales and/or marketing positions at pharmaceutical and medical companies because they have the background to explain the real-world application of a product. You can even work at a company like a major brand name brewing company because beer fermenting instruments are very similar to those involved in the pharmaceutical industry.Whether it be developing cures for asthma, providing new limbs to amputees, or selling state-of-the-art medical equipment, there is a bioengineering career for you.

Came in great condition with fast shipping. No problems with it. Designed to be written and drawn in. I wish I would have been smarter about this book. It came loose-leaf and had to be put in a HUGE folder which was fine. My teacher collected the assignments out of it. I wish I had **copied the pages and done my assignments on the copies so I could have sold this book back at the end of the semester. Because I am not taking anatomy II I now have the second half of the book which I will never complete and cant sell back, which stinks because as a student I need every red cent! Oh well, I will try and save you at least!:)

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice book, surprised not bound, December 14, 2011
        Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Exploring Anatomy & Physiology in the Laboratory (Loose Leaf)
I need this book for a college class, and I guess I didn't read the description very closley because I was surprised when it came as just a stack of pages, not bound in a book. I think I will have to get a 2 or 3 inch binder to keep it together.

Talking About Sex - Exploring Sexuality With Kindness and Compassion

Talking About Sex - Exploring Sexuality With Kindness and Compassion

Sex, the most intimate, layered, and loaded of topics.Few subjects are more personal or individual.Sexuality is a complex composite of culture, gender, beliefs inherited from our families, life experiences, biology, etc.It is as unique to an individual as their finger prints. And so it follows that exposing your sexual fears and desires can feel incredibly vulnerable. As terrifying as this process might be, however, learning to communicate openly, respectfully, and continuously about sex can improve your sex life ten-fold, deepen your relationship with your partner and yourself, help you to feel more comfortable in and loving towards your own body, and enhance your appreciation and understanding of your own sexuality.Let's look at how you can facilitate a healthy, mutually-beneficial dialogue about sex with your partner.Know what you bring to the table. What does sex mean for you? Consider who you are as a sexual being. What emotions does the idea of discussing your sexual desires bring up for you? Fear? Excitement? Shame? Let your feelings arise without judgment.Think back on your past sexual experiences. How did you feel about yourself? Are there aspects of these experiences you would like to create with your current partner? What helps you to feel safe and relaxed with a sexual partner? How important is sex to you? Is sex more of an emotional act or a physical act for you? The idea here is to begin to explore and embrace your sexuality from a place of allowance.Where are your boundaries? Most people have at least a few sexual frontiers they would rather not explore.Be candid with yourself about what makes you uncomfortable and be willing to assert those boundaries with your partner. What does your ideal sex life look like? You are far more likely to get what you want when you ask for it.Spend some time thinking about what your ideal sex life might look like. How often would you like to have sex? How important to you is emotional intimacy, foreplay, variety, monogamy?Set the stage.Pick a stress-free time in a private place.Creating a relaxed, secure environment is essential when discussing a subject as sacred and personal as sexuality.Schedule a time when you will not be rushed or interrupted.Choose a secluded venue which allows you to speak freely.Check-in with one another.Take a moment to check-in with where you are both at emotionally.Knowing that one or both of you are entering into the conversation tired, distracted, anxious, etc.Can help to mitigate the impact of those preexisting states. You may also want to check-out before ending the conversation.Establish some guidelines for communication. What do each of you need in order for this conversation to feel safe, loving, and inviting? Discuss confidentiality explicitly. If you are not comfortable having the details of your discussion shared with friends or loved ones, make that clear from the outset.Bringing an overall attitude of goodwill is paramount to the success of any dialogue about sex. Some general rules which help foster goodwill might be; no blaming or degrading language, describe what you would like but don't demand it, and both participants have the right to end the conversation (with an agreed upon time to resume it) at any time.Cultivate effective communication.Employ respect and kindness.Use "I" statements. This does not mean, "I feel like you are a jerk".It means taking ownership of your own emotional experience, not attributing it to your partner's actions. For example, "I notice that sex often brings up feelings of insecurity for me" is different than, "you always make me feel insecure during sex".Practice emotional responsibility, it will keep your partner off the defense and allow you to be confident in your integrity.Be aware of your emotions and conscientious of how your partner is feeling.Express your fears and concerns.Respect each other's boundaries.Talk as a team.Approach this discussion as a collaborative effort not a conflict in which you are on opposing sides. You both have the same goal.Work together, as a unified force, to accomplish your shared goal.Avoid communication missteps.Denying/avoiding, intellectualizing, minimizing, defending/justifying, deflecting, catastrophizing/dramatizing, assuming, dredging up the past, threatening, attacking, discounting, interrupting, generalizing, preaching, and feigning agreement. These are only a few of the ways in which people fail to hear and acknowledge the feelings of others.Give some thought to which of these you are most guilty and begin to be more conscious of how that affects your relationships.Move from talk to touch.Take it to the bedroom.Once you have come to an agreement about some elements you would like to change, experiment with, or add to your sexual repertoire, move the discussion to the bedroom.Add a sensate component to your conversation.Explore how you each like to be touched, talked to, seen. This is a trust building exercise so be gentle with each other.Keep it light.Too much pressure can take the sexy right out of a situation.Let this be a fun, light adventure into exploring and discovering things about your partner.Laugh at yourselves, be playful, and enjoy the intimacy of being safe while vulnerable together.Maintain your gains.Make time for sex. That doesn't mean every Wednesday at 5.45.Scheduling time for sex and intimacy can feel sterile and overly structured, but forgetting to make sex a priority altogether can be even more detrimental.Make time for sex, and even more importantly, for connecting with your partner, just as you make time for exercise, regular meals, and sleep.Sexual intimacy is a vital part of a satisfying relationship. One question a week.Make sex an ongoing topic of discussion. Now that the lines of communication are open, keep them that way! One way to keep sex out from under the rug is to integrate a weekly sex question into your discussions. Here are a few examples..How does your mood impact our sex life, your desire for sex, etc.? What are you embarrassed to ask for during sex? What is the most important part of sex for you? What is your favorite part of my body? Of your body? Are there any sexual fantasies you would enjoy playing out together? How can I show you that I am interested in sex?Creating a space where you are free to express your sexuality openly and without judgment is a very healing and liberating experience.Being ridiculed or shamed, however, can be scarring. As the old adage instructs, do unto others as you would have them do unto you.Showing kindness, respect, and reverence for your partner's sexuality creates the fertile soil in which a healthy and satisfying sexual relationship can grow.
