Are your relationships dysfunctional because of your parents? As small children we pick every nuance of functional and dysfunctional interactions between our mothers and fathers, our primary archetypes of the masculine and feminine.Their dysfunction, via 'osmosis', becomes our unconscious norm.So if mummy manipulates daddy into getting what she wants, a little girl will unconsciously hold onto the belief that manipulation equals attention and fulfillment of desires. If daddy verbally and emotionally abuses mummy, she will absorb the belief that she is not worthy of true love and tender affection by a man.In both cases mum and dad may try to "hide" their speech, but words pale in comparison to the powerful undercurrents of energetic and behavioral communication.Children will believe anything you tell them. This osmotic effect occurs because young child lack the ability to filter information, everything they are told they believe. If you tell a child the earth is flat they will believe you, if you tell a child they are stupid they will believe you, tell a child that men are untrustworthy and that woman are weak and dishonest and they believe you. They believe in Father Christmas, the boogey man and the moon being made from cheese only because you told them.So why do children believe and download everything in there environment without question?Although being an evidenced based, spiritual person, as I graduate scientist I do enjoy exploring the science underpinning that which I have experientially knowledge of.The answer in the case on this article lies with "brainwaves." I think we have all experienced different brainwave states; a Zen and trance like state would produce low frequency waves, a hyper and frenetic state would produce much higher frequency waves. This is known because brainwaves can be measured with an electroencephalogram (EEG), which literally means "electrical head picture".The importance is that when our brain waves are low frequency we become more susceptible to suggestion, hence hypnotherapists putting their patients into a calming and meditative state called a theta state. In a theta state, brainwaves are measured at a frequency between 4 to 8 Hz.Coincidentally Dr Rima Laibow discovered in "Quantitative EEG and Neurofeedback" that a child between the ages of two and six typically has EEG activity between 4 - 8 Hz.A baby up to the age of two often displays delta waves, which is the lowest frequency between 0.5 - 4 Hz.At this age (between 2 and 6) children record comment as fact, these facts then become the 'absolute truths' that unconsciously shape the rest of that child's life.Hard wiring a child's subconscious.Dr Bruce Lipton wrote in 'Biology of Belief', "In humans the fundamental behaviours, beliefs and attitudes we observe in our parents become "hard-wired" as synaptic pathways in our subconscious minds.Once programmed into the subconscious, they control our biology for the rest of our lives, or at least until we make an effort to reprogram them.Anyone who doubts the sophistication of this downloading should things about the first time your child blurted out a curse word picked up from you.I'm sure you noted its sophistication, correct pronunciation, it's nuanced style and context carrying your signature.".Children also learn by pure observation.Researchers at Kyoto University's Primate Research Institute, found baby chips learn simply by observing their mothers, without an active coaching.Human children pick up complex skills merely by the observation of there parents.Children very carefully download all the information from their environment into there subconscious memory and as a result their parents belief systems and behaviors become their own.Your your beliefs about men really your mothers beliefs?Little girls then grow up into the likes of you and me harboring some interesting beliefs about the opposite sex and our interaction with them that don't serve us very well. These are often beliefs handed down through your family, from great grandmother to grandmother to mother to you; generation upon generation has unconsciously carried and lived out certain beliefs. The event that breaks the cycle is consciousness. When we bring awareness to the party, we don't interpret things so personally, we can look at our behaviors from the witness stand point and ask the question, "is that working for me?".Do your beliefs and behaviors bring joy, happiness and intimacy to your relationships? If not, why not change what you believe in?As within, so without.Grace.
